WALT: I have learnt the importance of the mangopare/Hammerhead shark.

This is a photo of my work I did with Whaea Ariana.

Whaea Ariana did the outlines of the mokomoko and we coloured it in with pastels, colouring pencils, vivids, felt tips and crayons. The colour I started with was orange and pink. I tested the colours out on a scrap paper and it made a nice and beautiful sunset colour, it was so pretty! After I coloured it I did the outside orange. Then there was this wave thing i coloured in with a red pastel. After I did that part I did the rest of the sunset part blue, yellow, green, pink, purple and more nice light colours. The red ngaru is Hine-Nui-Te-Po and the colourful ngaru is Hineahuone.

Then I went to whaea Ariana and she did the outside lines gold and black. Then i was finished. Ko Nga Uri o Te Rauroha te ingoa o toku nei mahi toi.

What is the name of your Tukutuku?

KaoKao

What is Kaokao?

Kaokao is what warriors have on their arm for a ta moko, But if it was seen/caught in a haka.

Kaokao is also a zig zag and it's from the Te Arawa and East Coast iwi.

Kaokao is also a side of our body. What side? Right.

What does the colours mean to you?
This is what it means to me. 

Red is for love, blood, my heart, anger, passion, danger and power.

Blue is for Tangaroa, T.p.s, beautiful sea, sky, warm, calm, peace and trust.

Brown is for our earth, nature, coffee, chocolate, wood, bark, sticks, trees, soil and dirt.

Kaitiakitanga

WALT: I know why being a kaitiaki is so important to me.

This is my photo of my mokomoko who is an kaitiakitanga.

A kaitiakitanga is a guardian,  who protects and who is a rangatira.

Te Puna Wairua did this because we were learning about Mokomoko.

We did it in Te Puna Wairua.(Rm 5. ) I use was pastels. My colour pastels were red, purple, green, brown,  blue and orange. To me it was beautiful until I added the brown bit on the Mokomoko head. After that I was done.
